Marek Pilch, born in Cieszyn (Poland), was educated at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where he studied the organ under Julian Gembalski and the harpsichord under Marek Toporowski. Having obtained a scholarship from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) he attended further musical studies at the Staatliche Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik in Trossingen (Germany). He was given an honourable mention at the International Organ Competition in Gda\u0144sk (1992) and participated in the final stage of the International Harpsichord Competition (NDR) in Hamburg (1997). In 1998-2000 he taught harpsichord and basso continuo courses during the Bohemia Festivals in Kostelec (the Czech Republic).<\/p>\n
From 2000 to 2005 Marek Pilch was an organist at the St. Christopher Church in Wroc\u0142aw, and in 2002 he established the Evangelical Institute of Religious Music in this city. He cooperated with VEESO (a society for the research and maintenance of organs in Silesia) and with Internationale Heinrich Sch\u00fctz Gesellschaft (the International Heinrich Sch\u00fctz Society). In 2011-2013, in collaboration with the Museum of the History of Katowice, he led a cycle of piano and chamber concerts played on the piano constructed by Ernst Irmler in 1860. Marek Pilch currently appears in diverse roles as a harpsichordist, as an organist and a chamber musician, performing solo works or with a variety of early music ensembles. He leads his own ensemble, Trio brillante<\/em>, in which he plays on the historical square piano.
